Clear boundaries

A connection path is not a compatibility promise.

USB-C is a shape

Only the computer specification can confirm DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt, USB4 display support, power, or data behavior.

HDMI is a video path

HDMI can carry the picture, but it is not counted as a portable monitor power source. The monitor’s specified power remains separate.

USB-A is a managed route

USB-A-only setups may need a DisplayLink- or InstantView-style adapter and software. Driver support and display behavior vary by model.

Unknown stays unknown
