Planning method
Start with the objects, then check the room.
The width estimate adds your display span, small between-screen gaps, side margin, and a laptop or base-stand allowance when selected. The depth estimate reserves a keyboard/front zone and a support-specific rear planning zone. These are explicit layout assumptions, not universal desk or arm specifications.
Use outside monitor width
Measure the display's physical left-to-right width. A diagonal size such as 27 inches is not the width used by the calculator. Include the real base, arm, cable, laptop, wall, and trim constraints in your follow-up measurement.
Width check
Compare the recommended desktop width with the narrowest clear room width. The pass threshold leaves 2 in per side; a borderline result is a prompt to measure again.
Monitor position
OSHA says the top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level and the screen should be at a comfortable viewing distance. Use that as a positioning reference, not as proof that any desk height is right for you. Read OSHA's monitor guidance

How wide should a desk be for two monitors?
Start with the outside width of each display, add a small gap between screens, a side margin, and any laptop or monitor-base allowance. This calculator uses a transparent planning heuristic and then compares that target with your maximum clear room width. It is not a universal minimum or a manufacturer requirement.
How deep should a dual-monitor standing desk be?
This tool starts at 24–26 inches depending on the support choice, then adds a small front allowance when a walking pad is selected. The number is a layout estimate for the monitor support area, keyboard, cables, and front working room. Confirm the exact monitor-arm clamp, stand footprint, desktop depth, and wall clearance before ordering.
Does the calculator prove that my monitor arms will clamp?
No. The calculator reserves a planning zone but cannot know the exact clamp opening, rear setback, cable channel, frame member, control box, wall trim, or grommet location. Measure the delivered desk and compare it with the arm maker’s dimensions. The cited desk pages do not publish one universal dual-monitor clamp clearance.
Does choosing a walking pad check desk height or safety?
